Start Gates for Cross-Country Skiing

Swiss Timing (Switzerland)
Start gates for cross-country skiing sprints are used to detect false starts. The system was developed upon request from the International Ski Federation (FIS). Prior to the introduction of this system, false starts could only be identified by reviewing TV footage of the start.
The false start detection system identifies the athlete responsible for the false start, allowing the referee to issue a warning or disqualify the athlete if necessary.
The start gates are controlled by an electronic control unit housed in a weatherproof case with a built-in rechargeable battery, ensuring reliable autonomous operation for over 24 hours.
