Photoelectric light beam

Swiss Timing (Switzerland)
Photoelectric light beams in speed skating are essential for determining the athlete’s finish time when crossing the finish line on either the outer or inner competition lane. The photoelectric light beam system serves as a backup to the automatic timing system and operates on an optical principle.
The beams are controlled from the chronometer unit located in the timing control room.
