High-Speed Video Backup System (HSV) is a backup officiating system using high-speed video recording in competitive swimming. It is a hardware and software solution designed to record results with high accuracy. The system uses high-speed cameras aimed at the finish line and records video onto computer SSD drives. When reviewing the recorded frames, the system allows for precise timing of the athlete's finish, capturing every moment with accuracy down to 1/100 second.
One of the key advantages of the system is its high temporal resolution – 100 full frames per second, which is twice the rate of standard PAL systems. The cameras can operate synchronously, providing coverage of the finish line from multiple angles, dividing the image into 4 sections without losing measurement accuracy.
The HSV system also supports synchronization with the main officiating equipment, receiving the start signal from the StartTimeV device, and can function as a full backup solution the main timing system especially for relay swimming events.
